Visitors with Shiraito Falls and its surrounding greenery in Fujinomiya
The flowing white water and greenery of Shiraito Falls.

Shiraito Falls in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, is a beautiful place to enjoy nature around Mount Fuji and an appealing stop on a sightseeing trip by car from Shimizu Port. But if you are concerned about stairs, you may wonder whether you need to walk all the way down to see the waterfall.

The reassuring answer is that you can enjoy the scenery without going down to the waterfall basin. The viewing area before the stairs offers a beautiful view of the falls, allowing you to choose a visit that suits your energy and comfort.

A curtain of white water at the foot of Mount Fuji

Shiraito Falls looks quite different from a waterfall with a single powerful stream. Spring water nurtured by Mount Fuji flows from the rock face in many fine white threads, creating a delicate, sweeping scene.

The surrounding trees and greenery change with the seasons. Mount Fuji itself may be hidden by clouds, but there is still plenty to appreciate at the falls when the summit is out of sight. Take time to enjoy the water and the natural setting, rather than focusing only on a view of the mountain.

You can enjoy a beautiful view before descending the stairs

At Shiraito Falls, you can choose between going down closer to the waterfall basin and enjoying the scenery from the viewing area before the stairs. If stairs are difficult for you, there is no need to push yourself to descend simply to see the falls.

The view from before the stairs is beautiful in its own right. Enjoy the scenery, take photographs, and spend time at your own pace. Your whole party does not have to walk to exactly the same place; discuss a comfortable approach with your guide.

If you go down, remember the climb back up

If you would like a closer view, the route towards the waterfall basin includes approximately 100 steps. Going down may feel manageable, but climbing back up can be more tiring. Consider how you feel and how comfortable you are with stairs before starting the descent.

Getting as close as possible is only one way to enjoy Shiraito Falls. A relaxed visit from the viewing area can be just as rewarding. Leaving some energy for the rest of your day will help you enjoy your other sightseeing stops, too.

A visit by car still includes some walking

Travelling by car reduces the effort of moving between sightseeing stops, but you will still need to walk from the parking area to the viewing area. The time needed depends on your walking pace and any breaks you take. There is no need to hurry simply because the distance is relatively short.

The viewing area before the stairs can be reached by wheelchair. If you use a wheelchair, please discuss your walking ability, getting in and out of the vehicle, and wheelchair storage with us beforehand. Planning both the visit and the transport will help make the day more comfortable.

Wear comfortable shoes and leave time to enjoy the scenery

Choose shoes you are used to walking in. Paths may be wet during or after rain, so take care with your footing as you enjoy the view.

If you would prefer to keep walking to a minimum, let your guide know. You can discuss a visit centred on the viewing area before the stairs, with breaks as needed. It also makes sense to adjust your plans to the weather and how you feel on the day.

Visiting Shiraito Falls on a private tour from Shimizu Port

When visiting during a cruise call, your plan needs to include the drive from the port, walking time at the falls, meals, and any other sightseeing stops. Rather than fitting in too many places, allow time to enjoy the scenery calmly and return to the port with a comfortable margin.

Our Shimizu private tours use a vehicle for travel between stops, and we can discuss sightseeing that suits your interests and walking pace. If you would like to see Shiraito Falls while avoiding stairs as much as possible, please let Nagasaki Private Tours know. The aim is to enjoy this beautiful setting from a place where you feel comfortable.
